The UK’s first Oasis Bar has been opened by an Irish Pub in Manchester.
The newly refurbished Irish pub ‘The Farmers Arms’ in Burnage launched a new bar in honour of local supergroup 'Oasis.'
The aptly named 'Oasis Music lounge' staged a four day Oasis festival to coincide with the bands homecoming open air gigs at Heaton Park.
The Festival featured an exhibition featuring a ‘wonderwall’ of ‘Oasis’ photographs by rock photographer Karen McBride taken at their last open air gigs at the City Of Manchester stadium. It also featured a collection of Oasis memorabilia in the newly opened lounge dedicated to the ‘supernova’ band and hopefully will make their memories ‘live for ever’.
Mayo man Lawrence Hennigan the owner of the bar said “We have had a fantastic response to the newly refurbished Pub and the Oasis Music Lounge. We wanted to ‘roll with it’ so we ran a competition for two tickets to go and see Oasis at Heaton Park and had entries from as far away as Canada as well as ‘round our way’. We even had two music fans from Hong Kong who were over for the gigs, they turned up before we had officially opened. The response from the general public ‘some might say’ has been overwhelming since we first decided to create the special lounge. Fans have been emailing us from all over the UK asking for details and offering to donate items.”
“One half of the pub is dedicated to Oasis and the other more traditional lounge is staging an exhibition of old photographs of Burnage. We seem to be getting a cross section of people coming into the venue from twenty one to ninety one. It would be great to see Liam and Noel in the venue, a number of the regulars are relatives and have already told them about the bar. I have told them they can have plenty of ‘cigarettes and alcohol’ and I might even throw in a ‘champagne supernova’ or ‘whatever’ when they pop in – on the house.”
The bar is hoping to start a monthly new music night to support local bands and solo acts who want to be the next supergroup to come out of Burnage. For further details about the bar or the new music night email oasisbar@hotmail.co.uk
