Hollywood Irish Actress films latest drama at St Bede’s College
Anna Friel the award winning Hollywood Irish actress’s visit to St Bede’s College to film new series of the award winning ‘The Street’ for the BBC was something of an Irish affair. The actress whose own Irish roots stem from Belfast where her Gran, Mary Friel and the rest of the Friel Clan still live. She was joined on set Danny Mays whose Irish roots stem from County Kerry. The series was filmed by assistant director Vinny Fahy whose Irish roots stem from Limerick & Tipperary and his wife is from Cavan. Vinny’s film credits include the Street, Prime Suspect, Moll Flaunders, Cracker and Cold Feet. He is heavily involved in Manchester’s Irish community and both of his children are champion Irish dancers.
While at St Bede’s the crew used a number of the students at the College as extra’s in the production of the award winning ‘The Street’ series which is due for release in the Autumn.
The College has been used during the holidays as a film location for a number of prestigious TV productions including Cold Feet and Coronation Street.
Anna is now leaving in Los Angeles was playing the role of a mother in the series who was trying to get her children in the fictitious ‘St Peter’s Grammar School’.
The thirty two year old actress who has won a whole host of awards for her acting career including the TV Times Best Actress award, TV Quick magazine Best newcomer, Drama Desk Award and was nominated twice in the 2008 Golden Globe Awards for her work in ‘Pushing Daises’.
James Ward Mallinson whose mum runs the ‘Justine Ward Mallinson School of Irish Dancing’ said “It was a really good experience and I would do it all again if I could, its given me the acting bug. Anna seemed really nice and it was very special to have a picture taken with a famous actress.”
