Levenshulme Irish singer launches Guinness Anniversary Tradfest

Levenshulme’s favourite singer songwriter – Claire Mooney celebrates the twentieth anniversary of her debut album ‘Rocking the Boat’ when she launches this years Manchester Irish Festival tradfest supported by MEN MEDIA. The singer whose Irish roots stem from Dublin and the Mountains of Mourne in County Down will be performing with her Irish band ‘The Moving House band’. The band features the musical director of Young, Gifted & Green – John Gibson on Flute, support comes from the Alun Parry band. The Guinness loving Big Brother celebrity Terry Christian describes Claire as "Excellent...something of an undiscovered jewel" The concert takes place I the first floor acoustic room of m19 bar in Levenshulme.

The two week Guinness sponsored tradfest in Levenshulme village, will feature two hundred and fifty hours of traditional and contemporary Irish Music, to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Ireland’s favourite dark stout.

Lawrence Hennigan the marketing director of the festival website said “This years fourteenth festival looks to be our best yet. There are close to two hundred events at over thirty two venues. Eighty of those events take place in Levenshulme village, making it once again one of the main destinations for festival acitivities.”

Other highlights during the opening weekend include the award winning ‘Young, Gifted & Green’ Irish Music & Dance show at the Gorton Monastery on Saturday 7 March. The one hundred strong troupe will create history when they become the first Irish group to perform at the newly restored Monastery which is now one of the Northwest’s premier events centres.

James Cannon the son of Sean Cannon of the Dubliners puts on a free concert at the Union pub in Levenshulme on Saturday 7 March. The concert will feature James and his Celtic Rock band ‘The Sinners’, it will be a rare opportunity to catch the band before they go off on their European tour.
